How Does the Currency Converter Work?
The converter multiplies your amount by the current exchange rate between your two selected currencies. Rates are quoted against a common base and combined, which is exactly how professional systems derive cross-rates — for example EUR to JPY is computed from EUR/USD and USD/JPY.
Keep in mind that the rate a converter shows is the mid-market rate: the midpoint between global buy and sell prices. The rate you get from a bank, card, or exchange office includes their margin, so treat converted amounts as close estimates rather than exact figures.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate are the exchange rates?
When a live rate source is connected, rates reflect recent mid-market values and the last-updated time is shown below the result. Mid-market rates are informational — banks, card networks, and exchange offices typically add a margin, so the rate you actually receive will differ slightly.
What is an inverse exchange rate?
The inverse rate shows the conversion in the opposite direction. If 1 USD = 0.93 EUR, the inverse is 1 EUR ≈ 1.075 USD. Seeing both directions makes it easier to sanity-check prices while traveling.
What is the best way to exchange money when traveling?
This varies by destination, but paying by card in local currency and withdrawing from bank ATMs generally gets closer to mid-market rates than airport kiosks. Always compare the offered rate against the mid-market rate shown by a converter like this one.
Why do I see a demo-mode notice?
If no exchange-rate API is configured for this site, the converter shows a clearly labeled static reference snapshot instead of live rates. The math is the same, but the rates are not current — treat them as rough estimates only.
